Hello, 2017

2016 has been an turbulent year, to say the least.

There were too many catastrophic and unforeseen events this past year. It seemed as though some of the worst human characteristics were unearthed — sexism, hatred, greed, and bigotry. Things that people have worked really, really hard to try to abolish from our society.

What I want for 2017 is for kindness to prevail. If you see or know someone that needs a bit of help, give it. If your friend could use a smile, do your best. Hold the door open for a stranger… help them with their Presto card if they are new to the city. Dream big and plan accordingly. And if you can do anything this year, show kindness. We need more of it.

2017 – I’m looking forward to you.

My resolutions:

1. Do more things that make me happy

Why do we prioritize least the things that bring us the most joy? This year, I vow to read more, run faster, and worry less.

2. Volunteer

Volunteering is the perfect way to offset an unforgiving year.

3. Stick to a budget

I’m coming to terms with the fact that I may not be able to travel as much as I had hoped to this year, and I have no one to blame for this but myself.

4. Be a better friend

I’ve surrounded myself with the most beautiful of souls and it’s time I repay them for all the joy they bring to my life.

5. Write more

Writing is my craft and I must work to perfect it.

6. Say “Yes” more

It’s so easy for me to stay home and fomo is becoming irrelevant… When amazing opportunities come my way, I will not say no.

7. Learn another language

I will learn French.

On that note, I wish you a safe and happy new year. Au revoir & bonne chance.

Love always, Rae.
